About Khaled Hosseini

Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. He was the oldest out of five children.His mother was a teacher and his father a diplomat. His family left Afghanistan for a posting in Paris in 1976,well before he Communist coup and the Soviet invasion.They intended to return,but sough political asylum in the US in 1980. Hosseini wrote the Kite Runner, because he wanted to write about his country and what it was like. He wrote about Afghanistan before the Soviet was becuase that is largely a forgotten period in modern Afghan history. He wanted to remind people the Afghans had managedto live in peaceful anonymity for decades.Hosseini now lives in Califoria where he is working as a doctor.
