The Kite Runner: What would we change in the Story?

If we could change one event in the story it would be that Amir would have saved Hassan from being raped. Resulting in their relationship/friendship in being saved as well. Hassan and Ali would still be with Baba and Amir , they might even be there in America. The story would be different Amir would not have done all those things to get rid of Hassan. Instead of the story focusing on the incident, it would focus on their bond getting stronger. And if they were together in America Hassan and Ali could probably help out by getting jobs. And maybe just maybe Hassan and Amir would both fall for Soraya. Resulting in them fighting over each other ending their relationship. Or Hassan being a good friend would back down and leave to another area leaving Amir and Soraya happy.
