For English class, here at SIS, we are assigned to do the Accelerated Reader Program, or AR for short. In this program us students get to read a variety of different books for our choosing. I’ve read lots of different books for AR and by far my favourite one would be Zero Hour by Will Hill. The funny story is I read this book a while back, but the quiz of the story just recently came out. It is not a very well known book, but it is a fantastic read. It is part of series titled Department 19. It is about vampires being real here in the 21st century, and there is a special government agency in Great Britain that helps fight off these creatures. The main character is named Jaime Carpenter. He is tasked with the mission to find the very first person Dracula bit along with Larrisa Kinley. There is also Matt Browing, a boy genius, working on the cure for vampirism. There is also Dracula who has captured the director of Department 19, Henry Seward.
The author of the story Will Hill, was born in the late 1970s and grew up in Lincolnshire. He now lives in London, England. The story he wrote is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. One example was when the entered the dark, creepy, and mysterious forest to find the Second Vampire. You don’t know whether they’d survive or even find him, especially after one of their crew members were murdered. Will Hill’s great story telling also helped me visualize the setting. The story takes place in Britain. One connection is that when he described the setting, it made me think about the photos that my parents showed us when they went to Britain for vacation, and how much the photos were similar to how he had described it.
I suggest everyone to read it, since it suits many different demographics. Zero Hour may only seem like a action packed book, but it is a love story, a thriller novel, and a horror story all rolled up into one long book. Once you start to read it, you are sure to be hooked.
