Kite Runner Project

Our goal was to design a kite based on the book, Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The object(the kite) is to show an understanding of the themes,characters, important turning points and symbols of the story.

We chose the delta kite because like Hassan, the shape of the deltal was plain and wasn't that special or eye catching like other kites.

Once you put it into action, it stands out from the rest and is great. (it's exceptional) We divided the theme, characters, important turning points, and symbols into four different panels on the kite.

The top panel of the kite held the symbol of the story. The symbol was a slingshot, which symbolized bravery in the story. The panel's background for the symbol section was white pearl because white pearl is shiny and stands out. The slingshot was a symbol of bravery which stood out throughout the story. A scene that showed bravery was when Sohrab slingshot a brass ball to Assefs eye.

The panel to the left was the turning point. Its background was a light shade of blue to represent the turning point in the story, which was when Amir went to see Rahim Khan in Pakistan. A lot changed in that moment.

The middle panel was for the characters. We chose to focus on Amir, because he was the only character in our opinion who really changed throughout the course of the book. The panel's background for the characters was monochromatic. We chose a dark shade of blue which (transitioned into/faded ) to a light shade of blue. The dark area represents how cowardly, ungrateful and selfish Amir was as a child. The lighter shades depict how he grew into a responsible, compassionate adult.

The panel to the right was reserved for the theme. The most important theme expressed in the novel was friendship. The novel had two major relationships. The first, between the protagonist and his father. The second was between the protagonist and his friend. The background was a neutral shade of blue because at times friendship could be either bad or good.
