A book I have recently read called The Secret Identity of Devon Delaney, by Lauren Barnholdt talks about a teenage girl who lies her way into being popular and to fit in with the rest of the crowd. Devon Delaney is our protagonist in this novel she had just came back from her grandparents house for the summer. While she was at her grandparents she had told a new friend, Lexi that she met while she was there that she was considered one of the popular kids back at her school. And that she dated the most popular guy at school, Jared Bentley. But the problem was, Devon wasn’t part of the popular crowd at all and she was most definitely not dating Jared. Conflict arose when summer best friend Lexi showed up at Devons school and attended the school year. Devon lied her way through the whole book and is now about to be exposed for the lies she has committed, so what is she going to do now?
I really enjoyed reading this book because, I tend to see that lying your way to being something you're not but being something that other people like is the new trend. A lot of people care about what others think of them. But in my opinion you should just love the way you are and not change, that's what makes you unique. Devon thought her lies were harmless, but they’re actually not, she deceived so many people along the way just to be “popular”.
